BEEP BEEP! MRP is
ready to go the extra mile!
The impact of the Big Red Reading Bus extended beyond our hopes here at MRP. When we originally invested in the concept, our intention was to increase visibility, enhance awareness of our mission, and provide our community with a fun experience at our book-giving events.
But it's become so much more than that. It's now an iconic and integral part of the work we do. When we pull up to a school or community center, kids are excited because they know that this space was created just for them. And when they come on board, they are transported into a magical library of stories where their unique identities are both reflected and celebrated.
We are excited to build on this with bus 2.0, an ADA compliant vehicle that will give us a more inclusive space to make a difference. With this bus, we will be able to take part in even more community events, serve more kids and continue to ignite a love for reading...
And we need your help to get on the road!

Thank you for your contribution to Bayview’s community picnic! The book selection you brought was so diverse and thoughtfully curated and I think the children really enjoyed being able to choose their own books. I am excited to use the books you left over for us in After School or to distribute to families in the neighborhood.

Growth
In the Fall of 2022, we realized the importance of planning for growth in 2023. Bus program requests reached maximum capacity filling our schedule 4 days a week, from May to September. Getting a second Bus was identified as key component in extending the reach of our mission, and a clear opportunity to improve on what we can offer schools and community centers all around Dane County.
The New Bus
Books that reflect the unique experience and identity of every reader is at the heart of our mission, and we knew that our current bus had accessibility limitations that we need to fix. It's important to us that every person who approaches the Bus feels welcome and able to board, so the new Bus will have two entrances, a lift gate, a large glass door with steps that are lowered to the ground, and a handrail so that access is safe for everyone.
