Books for Schools
Madison Reading Project was formed to help increase literacy rates of vulnerable children in Dane County and encourage a love of reading. We have now expanded our reach to include any community in South Central Wisconsin. We partner with Pre-K, Elementary, Middle Schools, and High Schools with our book programs.
The Birthday Book Program provides you with 50 brand new books of various reading levels that the kids can choose from on their special day. School social workers or teachers help identify the children that would benefit most from a new book to call their own. Teachers can request more books when their supplies are low.
Books for Schools Program: Request books by reading level or category, and we will do our best to provide you with the amount requested.
Example A: a middle school asked us to provide 300 chapter books at 3rd grade through 8th-grade reading levels.
Example B: an elementary school requested a free book fair and book reading for several grades.
Example C: a middle school teacher is seeking Spanish books for his/her classroom
Example D: a high school teacher is looking for books to start a book club with students
Summer Reading Program: Request books for your students to take home before summer starts to help keep the summer slump at bay. Madison Reading Project suggests that rather than a list of required reading or suggested reading that ‘meets academic needs,’ we should offer kids books they won’t be able to put down to keep them engaged in summer reading. We have many different kinds of books and reading materials for children. Research shows that allowing low-income children to pick out their own free books not only helps to close the summer reading gap, but it also works just as effectively as summer school. The results of the study by the American Academy of Pediatrics and University of Tennesee confirmed the findings of earlier studies showing children read more and ultimately learn more when they’re allowed to select their own books.
Contact us to get your school signed up and your students reading or to set up a time for us to bring books to your school before students are out for the summer. We'll provide books for students to select from. (Books are new or gently used)
